Buying a gun?

I’m a Florida resident and am going to be visiting North Carolina soon and was wondering if a non resident of North Carolina can purchase a rifle or shotgun.

You have to have a firearms permit to purchase guns I think.

Simplest way is to buy in Florida.

Just buy it in Florida.

A long gun, YES, but only from a licensed dealer, and the dealer must comply with the gun laws of the dealer's state AND the buyer's state.  Some dealers do not want to mess with the the laws of another state and my refuse to sell to someone out of state.

Since you are Florida resident, it makes more sense to purchase the gun in Florida and transport it to NC for the purpose of your visit.

Rifle and shotgun - Yes.  I travel all the time and buy rifles and shotguns in other states.  Just fill out the forms, pass the background check and hand over the money - they hand you the rifle or shotgun.

You can also buy a pistol - but - generally these need be shipped to a FFL in your home town.  Some big stores - like Kittery Trading Post in Maine - they can sell pistols to out of state customers so long as all requirements are met..... but KTP is more the exception and not the rule.

That said. (for other people reading this - not you)  Choose wisely.  Obviously if the BFG-9000 is outlawed in your home state you should not buy it out of state and fly or drive home with it. It's no fault of the seller/store to keep up with the laws of every city, state, or town in the US.
