In retrospect, would it have been better for Democrats if Clinton had been convicted after his impeachment?

He did, after all, commit perjury.  Gore would have become President and might have gone on to win in 2000.

Clinton actually did commit a crime and it was disregarded by the Democratic Congress. That has made impeachment and removal almost impossible.

no
He committed perjury about an incident that had nothing to do w/ the booming economy, superb foreign policy, etc. It was the GOP making issue of trivial minutia because their tribalism can't stand to see the dems do well.
Gore won the popular vote ... instead we got gwb whose policies resulted in deep recession. The lesson that should have been learned is terminate the electoral college which has become outdated w/ the sophistication of communication.
The 17th amendment made senators subject to direct election. It's time to apply this to the presidency which should significantly stimulate voters to show up at the ballot box knowing the EC can't snub the efficacy of the vote.

No.........because Perjury, while a crime, did not meet the bar of High crimes, nor did it effect National interests or security.

It was at best, a private martial affair......she admitted she encouraged it, and was a willing participant. Even stupidly bragged about it, to "friends", who immediately turned her in.

What Trump has done, and is still doing....is taking cues from RUSSIA and believing Tin foil hat crap, promoted by RUSSIA.

If you don't see the problem with that.......then you are blind.

We don't know that Gore would have won in 2000.  The Republicans might have ended up snatching the election via the Supreme Court anyway.  Gore was clearly harmed by his association with Clinton, and the electorate has a tendency to want a change of party after 8 years or so.

Remember that Gerald Ford lost in 1976.
