The panic is causing far more problems than the illness itself. It is something to be very concerned about if you have existing health problems, particularly respiratory, and you are over the age of 50, and mortality rage for each additional 10-year increase in age range spikes dramatically.
So the rest of us need to be mindful of those folks. The shutting down of events that draw large crowds in not panic, it is smart. Anything that can slow down the spread buys more time for a vaccine to be developed. Yes, it will extend the time this virus runs to a much greater period than if we just let it run loose and do what all viruses do and burn out eventually. But to just let ir tun loose is foolish and WILL kill large numbers of older folks who maybe won't be exposed at all if we take the more cautious approach. Additionally, trying to slow it down can avoid a sudden crush on the hospital system that it can't handle.
What IS stupid is running out and hoarding toilet paper and bottled water and face masks and other things.
