Count carbohydrates, not calories. It's the most sensible way to get healthy and stay that way. Lose the sugars and grains and refined oils/shortenings. Use natural fats, eat natural fats.

As many as you need. Caloric requirements change from day to day. If you were healthy, your body would know where it is full, halting hunger.
But you, like me, were raised to think that sugar was not only safe but actually a food!
Now we know different. The only safe sugar is that which is mitigated by fiber, made simple enough by only consuming whole foods, water and milk.
Eat to live; don't live to eat. The irony is that after quitting sugar, EVERYTHING except sugar tastes wonderful and sugar like $h!+!
