Can I use multiple voltage regulators in parallel if I need more current that 1  7805 can handle?

So I want to built a Lithium Ion batter power supply with multiple D.C. output voltages. And one of the devices will require upto 3 amps.  But from the couple of voltage regulators I have seen, they are probably not rated for even one amp. Can I gang several of them together in parallel until I reach the current I need?

Or is there a different grade of voltage regulator I should be looking for?

you could, but better to use a 5 amp one, such as LM138 or LM350.

you will need a large heat sink.

Note that Lithium battery chargers require a lot more than a regulated voltage. Read up on it. Overcharging will damage the battery.
