I don't think Trump has done particularly well, but he's also not been particularly bad and I doubt Hillary would have done any better because the main failure has been that the FDA and CDC are slowing the speed at which we can respond. Trump did a LITTLE to nudge them out of the way, but they are still impeding everything.
Would Hillary, a believer in big government have forced the CDC or FDA to get out of the way? Unlikely. Certainly, Hillary would be a better communicator. Trump's ego prevents him from letting anyone but himself take point to talk about things, but Hillary's ego is AT LEAST as big as Donald's. But Hillary would actually be reading briefings and the media wouldn't be deliberately trying to stir things up. For example, Donald never told anyone to drink bleach. But the media keeps repeating the myth. That's just bias in action. All Trump did is have a typical Trumpian stream of consciousness ramble about an actual legitimate study that was going on (which he clearly didn't understand).
Fortunately, this pandemic is mostly a nonevent. The early antibody studies show that the lockdown failed to prevent the spread of the virus and that it's true mortality rate is actually EXTREMELY low, very comparable to the flu. We should start lifting the lockdowns immediately. Sure, still encourage telework for those who can, protect vulnerable populations, encourage social distancing...but these full lockdowns were NEVER justifiable, and have failed to do their job.

What? And Hillary would have been? She could not even walk up steps without help during her campaign and fell down many times. Photo's showed she was "propped up" during one of the debates. We are lucky to have Trump.

I heard an NY State health official a few days ago saying that "previous regulation" was one of the biggest early roadblocks to the COVID response..
.... under the provisions what she called "earlier reforms," state and local officials had to get layers of bureaucratic approvals before ordering testing supplies or re-purposing hospital rooms for critical care... she said that the federal government had been doing a "fantastic job" rolling back those regulations and "putting health care professionals back in the decision-making role"...
California officials... even trump-hating Gov. Gavin Newsom.... have also credited the federal response time and overall support.... again citing the removal of bureaucratic road blocks as a key factor...
so yeah....maybe Trump the character on your TV shows doesn't look or sound like an effective leader... but somebody seems to be doing something right at the federal level..... and it certainly isn't (or wasn't) the ones who put all that excessive regulation into place and called it "reform"...
