Why does the flight from the west coast to China take longer than the west coast to Europe?

From west coast to China, it's only a straight hop across the Pacific.

From the West coast to Europe, you need to fly through the entire American continent, and the Atlantic.

Why then is the flight from LA to Beijing/Shanghai still longer?

Because it's farther?

Because it's farther.

LA to London is 5,400 miles.
LA to Beijing is 6,200 miles.
LA to Shanghai is 6,400 miles.
Do you really not understand how large the Pacific Ocean is?
