Western Massachusetts is often looked down upon by Bostonians for its rustic nature. So maybe try there.

Depends on how you define popular.  Also depends on how you define a "city".  I would define Boston, Worcester, Lowell,  Lawrence and New Bedford as "cities".

There are towns in Massachusetts that 99% of the US population outside of New England have never heard of, Billerica for example. There are towns in Massachusetts that have sketchy reputations, but are more well known, like Lawrence, which was put down as the source of New Hampshires opioid problem by Trump.  https://www.necn.com/news/national-international/web-trump-lawrence_necn/2097603/

Popular in what way?
Every state has tiny towns most people have ever  hear about.

Generally cities have high populations ,more jobs etc; how are you defining 'popular'?
