My husband and I sometimes travel with other couples and rent a condo/small house. We always split the price equally on the place we rent but when we get there, it's always so awkward to decide who gets the master bedroom. The bed is usually bigger and there is usually an en suite bathroom. Any suggestions? It's almost always just one other couple at a time, not several. And not the always same couple every time so "taking turns" doesn't help"

When you travel, with the same couple, alternate who gets the master bedroom.....that way it's fare for everyone.

Devise a game to see who gets the master. Either flip a coin, or draw a straw, or play a card from a deck--agree on the game first, the rules second and honor your choices.

If you travel with the same couples, switch each time. One time you get it, the next they do.
Or, make a rule that the couple getting the master has to pick up the tab for one dinner or lunch, or buy the liquor.

If you are good friends you can inspect the property and then start a poker-type bidding war. "We will pay you $10 per night for the Master bedroom. What will you pay us for the Master?" "Well WE will pay YOU $20 per night for the Master."
