Who's an iconic fictional character that showed up late in their series?

Name a character that was introduced either in a later installment in a book or movie series, or in a later season of a TV show and went on to become one of the more popular characters to come out of that property.

Harley Quinn is a relatively new character in the Batman comics. She debuted in the 90s animated show, 50+ years after the first appearance of Batman and The Joker. Now, she is a very popular character, with her own film and show.

The first one that comes to mind is Seven Of Nine on Star Trek Voyager.  She's pretty popular.

Another is Rebecca on Cheers.
