What does "Open your mouth a little wider when you speak" mean?

In "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", Wonka takes Mike Teavee, Mrs. Teavee, Charlie Bucket, and Grandpa Joe to the Wonkavision room. Mike then explains what Wonkavision does, only for Wonka to tell [Teavee] that he needs to open his mouth a little wider when he speaks. Wonka proceeds to explain his newest invention.
