How long does a dvd player play before needing cleaning?
I have never gotten more than 2-3 dvd disks played before the player starts stuttering and stops. I then use a cleaning brush disk. Then the player plays for another 2-3 disks befgore it needs cleaning again. Is this normal dvd player behavior? How long do you get before needing cleaning?

I keep dvds in their cases. Put them back immediately. Never left out. This behavior is for my entire library. The entire library is not scratched I estimate.

I only play commercial dvds in the player. I dont rip and play the rips.

You need to buy a new DVD or blu ray player because yours is definitely not working. I’ve never had to clean one, (or even a blu ray player for that matter) in the entire time they’ve existed. DVDs and blu rays, yes, (due to scratches and fingerprints) but never the players. I would just get a new one, because in this day and age it’s cheaper to do that rather than paying to fix the old one.
I have never had to clean any of my several players. There is something seriousy wrong when you can't play more than a few discs between cleanings.
I would look for environmental factors, such as the player being in or close to a kitchen (airborne grease!), excessive dust in the air (which would be even worse if the humidity is high because what amounts to light mud could be deposited on the pickup lens), tobacco (or other) smoking or vaping in the house, or using the player in a garage or shed.
Also, those cleaning discs don't do a good job and I strongly recommend Not using them. An audio/video repair shop can clean the lens properly (manually), and if conditions are good enough in the house after that, no further cleaning should be needed.
That is not in any way normal; I clean mine every few years, if they start acting up.
Are you touching the discs by anything other than the edges? Simple fingerprints can totally mess them up, if you ever touch the non-label side.
That's a common problem with children changing discs, as their hands may not be big enough to hold discs properly, even if they are otherwise very careful.
Or is it in an area where it is exposed to some kind or fumes? Cooking fumes, people smoking heavily, steam etc. That could cause a rapid build up of dirt film on the lens.
The only other thing I can think of is if the laser or optical assembly is poor and right in the edge of failing, so the slightest trace of contamination stops it working.
