What is your opinion on California’s plan to ban gas powered cars by 2035 ?
What is your opinion on California’s ban on gas powered cars aka (Executive Order N 79-20) ? Governor Gavin Newsom wants to ban all gas powered vehicles and replace them with clean electric run powered cars in order to help reduce emissions and combat climate change . With so many rolling black outs every year during wildfire season, would it be possible to power all the 15 million registered cars in the state and possibly much more ?

The only way it can possibly work is if thousands and thousands of residents flee the state - - - so looks like it has a good chance at the rate they are being driven out by high taxes, high prices and lunatics.
Local solar construction could easily cover the generation needs, and does not require loading on overhead lines. As an aside - Local solar is also an ideal solution to the line loading due to AC loads - you need AC when the sun shines, but the sun shining produces local electricity to cover that.
There is not much needed in terms of breaking science to make a big dent in Climate Change - what is needed is the political will to kick this stuff off, and set up the infrastructure - for example, arranging charging stations for multi-family buildings, etc.
The other aspect of this is that Executive Order N 79-20 does not ban gas powered cars. It bans the sale of new non-zero emission cars. So not all 15 million cars in the state will be off the road.
And that is probably a good thing - the emissions produced by driving a gas car for a few years are probably less than the emissions produced by building a new electric car. The most environmentally friendly car is the one you already own - - until you need to replace it.
In my opinion 2035 is way later than this should be put in place.
Electric cars have come a long way in such a short time. From GM EV1 in 1996 which got 70 mile to the charge to Teslas now that get over 500 miles. Even the sub $30k electric cars now get around 250 miles to the charge.
Imagine how much further we'd be along if it weren't for Republicons on Big Oil payrolls blocking every legislation on alternate energy vehicles. Top 50 legislators receiving the largest Big Oil contributions are Republicons!!!!!
I am in California with an electric car and solar power, so I am fine. But California can do whatever it wants to run it’s economy further into the ground. I hope to be out of this s-hole by then. It is already unaffordable to live here on a six figure income, this will just make it more unrealistic. I expect California to be like Detroit, with abandoned homes within the next 20 years.
