When Can You Trim A Privet Hedge?

I've been researching this and they say the best time to trim a privet hedge is late winter into early spring. We've had some very mild winters and I wouldn't mind doing it earlier, early February or even possibly January. Is there any reason not to?

You can trim privet whenever you want to because it's going to grow back, no matter when you do it.  Where we live, it's like a weed.
