Can someone explain to me why ANY “patriotic American” would carry a flag that was raised against the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?

I understand why some might carry flags reminding us all of our Revolutionary War and the founding fathers fight for freedom, but to call yourself an American Patriot and fly the flag of traitors to America, that I don’t understand.
