Coworker ?

my coworker calls me at 8am every morning. I answer and the topics range from what he watched last night to how many leaves he picked up in his yard (all about him). He got comfortable and started calling throughout the day. I stopped picking up and he claimed his New Year resolution was to call less... but here we go. I'm very passive aggressive and not sure how to nicely say chill the fk out

This is a tough situation, for sure! It's not fun having to feel like the meanie. Here's some suggestions that I have saved in my phone for people like this:

- Thanks for thinking of me. I wish I had the time to talk right now, but I don't.
- I'm swamped with / overcommitted to my responsibilities that I need to take care of/attend to right now.
- I don't think I'm the right person to help you/talk to right now
- Sounds fun. However, I'm not available at the moment
- This isn't going to work for me at the moment / today
- I'll get back to you when I'm available (avoid saying free and you can add some humor by saying "don't hold your breath")
- I need you to respect my privacy at the moment / today I'm busy

I would avoid apologizing to these type of people. If they're manipulative and or don't consider yours or anyone's boundaries a "sorry" to them sounds like "try again" and they are opportunists who will not care about anyone but themselves.

Hope this helps :)
