Question About Asking For A Raise?

Hello,
 So I have been working at my job for around 2 years now and I currently make roughly $14.32 an hour (I live in New York), my seniority date was this past 18th, and I am going to ask my boss for a raise.

Here’s some info: Currently, I work at a pet store (A major company, not a mom&pop shop), and I have experience with regards to most aspects of the business (excluding managerial tasks). I am in a higher position at my job as I am like the right hand to the inventory manager. For the most part, I am a decent worker compared to some of my other coworkers, but I know I am not the best.

So my question is this: Would I be crazy to ask for a $.68 raise to bring myself up to $15.00? Or am I aiming too low/high? For my coworkers some are making similar amounts to what I make even though I am a higher position than them and I feel that I deserve more for the position and work that I do. I won’t accept anything less than $.50 cents as I don’t agree that I should be making that little money. Besides, minimum wage is going to change in a year, so I’d rather have something at this point.

When was your last pay raise, and how much was it for? If you’ve been there two years with no raise, asking to be bumped up to $15.00 isn’t unreasonable. If you got a raise in the past year or so and it was significantly less than the $.68 you want to ask for, you need to be ready to justify why you are worth that. This needs to be the things you do that add value to the business and set you apart from you coworkers. You are basically asking for a 5% increase. In retail, that’s higher than average, so you need to be performing above average. What your coworkers make is irrelevant, what minimum wage might do is irrelevant. And when you say the minimum you will accept is $.50, are you prepared to quit your job on the spot if they don’t give it to you? Because unless you are a critical employee they cannot function without, be very careful about an ultimatum, employers don’t respond well to threats.

Typically raises are about 3% to 4% each year. In retail, you normally have salary reviews once or twice a year. If this is a major company and you have been there 2 years, you should have gone through several salary/performance reviews. What does your company website or employee manual say about performance reviews????

I would think you should be getting about 50 cent an hour raise every 6 months.
