Hey Cat owners, can you briefly explain to confused dog owners why you get a cat instead of a dog? ?

To dog owners: cats are very boring as pets, they don’t really do much. They’re “useless” animals. They can’t be trained to do anything besides use a litter box,
they don’t show care or affection. They have claws that scratch and ruin your furniture.
Dog owners are confused with cat owners, they ask “What is the point of getting/keeping a cat? With dogs you can do so many things, what exactly can you do with a cat?” Your turn, cat owners.

As someone that has both, I love them both. Cats came before the dog.

"They don't really do much." False. I don't know what you mean by this, but I will give you about 10% true. They do silly, stupid things, make me smile, give me massages, come to me when I'm upset about something, and doze in my lap.

"They can't be trained to do anything besides use a litter box." Also FALSE, and many cats instinctively need to bury their waste, so that's not even technically training, unlike dogs that may need countless weeks or months of potty training, parise, and sometimes treats for them to get it right. You plop a kitten in the box, done. You tell a puppy to piddle outside, and maybe on the 67th try, they get it right. I bump my chest with my hands to my cats, they know UP. They know their names. They know not to go on the counter.

"They don't show care or affection." In hindsight, neither do dogs. No animal really does, because it's all based on TRUST. If an animal trusts you, they will show you in THEIR WAYS, not the ways people have humanized them to fit their whims. To a bonded cat, you are an ugly, hairless, stupid cat. To a dog, you are part of the pack, so essentially, another dog. Cats show it in their own way, but because many people are so dog-minded, they don't think anything of it. A cat headbutting you is accepting you. A cat showing their tummy while their sleeping means full and complete trust. A cat walking up to you with their tail straight up is "Hi! I missed you, where ya' been?" A very vocal cat means they think they are communicating with you, because cats do not meow with other cats.

"They have claws..." Yeah, no sh!t. If you give your cat the appropriate means to exercise their natural instinct to scratch, you really have nothing to worry about. My cats have several posts, cardboard boxes, and a cat tree to scratch up. They hardly ever touch the furniture. Just as much as a dog needs mental and physical exercise to not destroy the house, cats need their needs met, as well.

If you don't like cats, don't get one. It's really that simple. Leave them for the people that are willing to understand what wonderful creatures they really are.

Because I don't need my pet to be my little slave.  They are very affectionate, soft, and cuddly.  But they're also independent and do their own thing.
