Self consciousness comes with maturity and experience. Self confidence is more important. Almost all 13 year old girls and 16 year old boys lack self confidence. Partly because they seek something unreasonable. Every failure make it worse. I am imagining that you are referring to confidence with boys. But it might be confidence with schoolwork or something else. To gain confidence you must start by looking at yourself through someone else's eyes. You think "why would he like me". Instead of "why wouldn't he like me". You set out to compete with other girls. You want to attract a particular boy to prove that you are better that some other girl. If he doesn't go for you you don't think " he was the wrong one for me". Instead you think "I wasn't good enough". Hey presto instant lack of confidence.
One day you need to find the RIGHT person not just any person. When that person comes along they may well see you as the most desirable thing on the planet even if others do not.
