I don’t want a wedding ?

I am getting married, me and my fiancé have planned to just have a court or civil marriage and take a small trip. We want to save our savings to have a few months of savings for our new apartment. Costs are already adding in Los Angeles, CA. Most apartments are two months of rent to get in. Having a wedding would be nice but we can use that money as an emergency fund. However, family and friends want us to have a big fancy wedding? They get offended. What do you think of this?

So what if your family and friends want you to have a big wedding. It's YOUR life, YOUR marriage, YOUR decision.

It cracks me up that people listen to their family and friends and cater to the ideas of others instead of using their own brains.  Use yours.

It's you life, and your choice and your beloved's.

BTW, you ARE having a wedding, which is when a lawyer or notary or judge solemnizes your vows. You just aren't inviting people.

I had a house before getting married.  Finances in order, been saving for a wedding since i was 16,  7 years was long enough to be able to afford everything and have a little left over.

Tell them it's because of covid. Covid is a good reason NOT to have a big wedding!
You don't want a wedding with covid going around but love can't wait!
There is a legitimate excuse you can to use to save face!

"However, family and friends want us to have a big fancy wedding?"
Not their wedding, not their choice.
If they want a fancy wedding, they'll have to make it their own!
