How come a free movie on youtube I can watch in 1080p but a movie I paid for the HD version and I can only watch it in 480 ?

It really depends on what resolution the original movie was filmed in AND the resolution it was uploaded to YouTube in, my friend. i.e. some older movies were filmed in a resolution lower than High Resolution.
