I started a new job in Jan 2021. Initially excited since i worked with my old company for 13 years. Now i regret it. I am not interested in the work. The ppl are nice and company is fine, but i just do not see myself carrying on any longer. I cant quit since there is no job openings right now. I kind of want to be honest with my boss that I am not interested in the work we do. ill do it and take the training. but at most in a year i am leaving. not sure what to do. i was wrong about the new gig and thats on me.

You say it's on you for being wrong about the gig, but that's a bit harsh on yourself. You may have picked the wrong place, but that can happen to anyone. What matters now is how you handle it.
The worst thing you could do is confide in your boss. Sometimes this makes sense, like if you're a long term employee having trouble with another manager, etc. But you're brand new to the job and you may need these people for a reference. As a long time manager, we don't want problems yet from someone there only 2-3 months. My best suggestion is just keep doing what you're doing, keep an eye out for anything that pops up elsewhere, and maybe even contact your people from your old company. With a recent 13 year stint on your resume, it's not going to make you look flaky if you stick with a job for 6 months and then leave.
It's not a good idea to confide in your boss. It may even backfire with you getting sacked and a bad reference. When you get another post just give the required notice. No explanation is needed unless you want to. It's only business after all.
