It's a bit early in the game for an accurate comparison between Google Answers and Yahoo! Answers. However, from my observations so far, the answers here are often brief, with few or no supporting sources accompanying them. At Google Answers, Researchers must cite all resources used for answers, and they are prohibited from voluminous cutting and pasting from websites (as this violates copyright law).

Also at Google Answers, all Researchers are pre-screened before hire so that Google may accurately assess individuals’ research talents, grammar, spelling, composition, thoroughness, and general communication skills before awarding them Researcher privileges. Here, anyone can jump in. Google Answers offers the same “jump in” for non-Researchers in its Comments section. So here, it feels more like comments for answers as opposed to GA, where a well-researched answer is often accompanied by several non-researcher comments. Sometimes, the comments add value for the customer, and sometimes they do not.

I believe that Yahoo! Answers will fill a niche, but I have to wonder if complex questions will ever be answered here. It's difficult to fathom someone taking three or four hours to correctly answer a Yahoo! question for only points. Google Answers is a fee-based service, and by accepting the fee, a Researcher accepts full accountability for the quality of his or her answers. If a Google Answers customer is displeased with a Researcher’s answer, they may request a refund, and then the question is oftentimes opened up again for other GA Researchers to answer. Also, at GA, a Researcher has the ability to lock a question while answering it. Here, multiple participants may be answering at the same time, and when the answers are posted, many may be similar or exactly mirror one another. In my opinion, that increases the time the asker has to spend weeding through many “answers” when many turn out to be comments or only guesses.

Additionally, mere readers of GA’s answered questions not only learn answers, but they also learn how to use Internet search engines in a positive manner. All GA Researchers are required to post their search strategies, and by merely observing the keyword lists provided by a Researcher, people can see different and very useful search techniques.

Finally, the old adage is true: “You get what you pay for.” I believe that the answers found at Google Answers will always have more value than the ones found here, because the GA Researcher is hired to supply information, and when one is compensated for one’s work, he or she tends to take it seriously. However, Yahoo! Answers will no doubt prove to be an entertaining stop on the Internet.

Google Answers is not free. Answerers can make money by answering questions. Yahoo answers is more like Google Groups with a different user interface. That is, basically its a message board where the questions are new threads.

The mian difference between the two services is the quality of the answeres. In yahoo's service anyone can come in and give their ideas or thoughts for almost anything. googles service is geared more towards academic or research demographics. Rather than people posting questions just for the heck of it, people use google to actually find out information that they are not able to find themselves. I have used the service for some of my research papers in school and found that for a little cash, google was able to help me out of some tough times.
