There are several ways to avoid antibiotics / MD's if you have a UTI that has not progressed to a further stage.
In addition to the drinking of LOTS of water and cranberry juice (organic only, NOT the kind with tons of sugar and preservatives), there are also cranberry supplements in the form of tablets.
Another remedy is "overdosing" on Vitamin C. It has been proven that when you take large doses of C (2000% of daily value or more), the excess that your body does not absorb "overflows" into your urine, and has a bacteria-destroying effect in your urinary tract.
Finally, there are several homeopathic remedies, including apis mellifica and borax, that are recommended for UTI's. You can find them at any vitamin / health food store.
Obviously, if you are experiencing fever, pain in the kidneys, or other serious symptoms, see a doctor immediately.

Its possible if you aren't too badly off. You need to drink a TON of water. Cranbery helps ease the pain but lots of water helps flush the system. But count on a lot of discomfort. If you aren't getting better in a day, I think you should go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. Good luck!

it is possible that you can clear it up - drink lots and lots of water.
it is also possible that the infection moves to your kidneys, and damages them or the valves, and causes a greater susceptability for future infections.
I would get it treated.
