Is the 50,000 mile service worth getting for a 2001 Jetta?

I am wondering if I really need it.

Yes, on German cars, that usually means changing the timing belt/chain, adjusting the valves and other internals. It can be well worth and stretch the life of the vehicle. The service is one of the primary reasons German vehicles last so long on the road. My BMW has almost 300,000 miles on it because of the requirments to maintain the engine.

Geeze no. Check your owners manual and do ONLY what they recommend for your preventative service. More than have the other junk a stealer throws in what they call the 50,000 mile service is extra fluff and not factory recommended. However, it does make a lot of money for the dealers, expensive to buy and low cost to deliver.
