    Because it looks sooooo professional.

    Maybe it's simply a tradition to draw attention to who's in charge.

    Oh yea! It's the judge/s who wear them. Take a closer look next time.

    Not all lawyers wear black gowns. Mostly judges wear balck gowns. IF you're going to prom, you might wear a black gown.

    lawyers wear the black gowns when they sacrifice virgin sheep to the god of law. The god of law then tells them you must bring me the head of a cross-eyed antelope, this antelope must not be a normal antelope, but a mystic three horned cross-eyed antelope, oh did you say lawyers?.... No honey, judges wear the black gowns.
