What is the best camcorder to buy for under $500 and why?

Should I buy miniDVD, miniDV, High8, VHS-C... what are the real differences between cameras and why would a casual user like me want the specific camera.

I don't feel very qualified to answer this question, however, Cnet seems to think highly of the Canon ZR400 which uses miniDV and as a matter of fact, most of the budget cameras appear to use miniDV. But the Canon ZR400 is not very good in low light situations so take that into consideration and read the reviews of all the budget models from Cnet, here, http://reviews.cnet.com/Camcorders/4521-6530_7-502...

When you find one you like find the best prices on it from Bizrate, http://www.bizrate.com/
