In the song "Working on the Highway" why did The Boss get arrested?
I like that song a lot, but I can't figure out why Springsteen ended up "working on the highway" with the warden at the end. What did he do?

Heres the lyrics:
It tells the story of the singer working on the highway, watching a girl (who is underaged) and running off with her to Florida. Her brothers come and retrieve her, he gets sentenced to a road crew, and is back working on a highway, in prison.
The charge is unspecified, but would be kidnapping, violation of the Mann Act, something like that.

Because he got involved with a man's daughter without his approval. Apparently she was either underage, or the family of the woman had police connections.
