Why do so many people send chain letters and urban legends online?

I'm wondering what is it about Internet users. Can't they discern untruth from truth? Is anyone else fed up with these endless wastes of time???

Yes, I am fed up with those types of emails too! I think some people just have more time on their hands and think, "Oh, this email was entertaining! I bet my friends would think so too!" When I think about who I get those emails from, it's usually parents or grandparents who have recently learned how to use email and are delighted by any chance to send an email. Or, it's from people who really have a lot of time on their hands ....

... then again, I suppose all of us Yahoo Answers participants could really be doing something better with our time, too! :)

I don't know personally why they do that. I can't stand it at all, so much in fact that when I receive it from a friend I tell them that if they've got enough time to email me junk then they've got just enough time to email me,"hey hit me back," click. It's a bunch of inane foolishness created to work the nerves if you ask me.

Good question. I figure it's the same as spreading gossip in real life. Some people just have the need to pass things on. :)

They are probably just bored and want to annoy you. I hate them, too, but I send them on to someone else if I feel like being a pest ;-))
