Check out your Yahoo address book which can be accessed from Yahoo Mail. It displays a yellow smiley if your friends gare online and a greyed one if they are offline. This is provided tht you have all your Yahoo contacts in your address book.

i dont think you can if its not working. go to your freinds house and sighn in on his/her computer.
