I am interested in buying a surround sound reciever. What should I look at for $3-5 hundred dollars?

As of now, I am going to be powering two, 150 watt Sapphire tower speakers. I want to buy a surround sound receiver because I want the surround option available to me in the future. I listen to music more than watching movies. So, I am thingking I need at least a 90 watt receiver. Any suggestions?

Onkyo and Harmon Kardin make great receivers in that price range.

For the money you can not buy a better receiver than the Pioneer VSX-1015. It is rated very high, offers thx 7.1 surround and has 120 per channel with a total of 840 watts. I purchased one of these an it power my $5000 mdesign speakers without a problem. I paid $429 at Best Buy.

The “The Perfect Vision” Magazine Jan / Feb 2006 issue chose the Yamaha RX-V657 A/V Receiver with a list price of $550 as its Receiver of the year. The issue is just now hitting newsstands.

The RX-V657 includes automatic setup/parametric room equalizer – unusual for this price.

I reccomend a lower end Denon reciever. Best quality for your buck.
