Breaking into the music industry is a very hard thing to accomplish. As for record labels taking you for an audition, it doesn't usually happen that way. The way to break into the industry is to write some GREAT songs, go to a independently owned recording studio with rehearsed musicians, under direction of an experienced talented producer and record the project with your singing. Next you will have to gain authorization from a label to send the CD/promo pack to them to accept and then you keep your fingers crossed. The problem is that thousands of people do this all the time and singers/musicians are a dime a dozen. If you send material without authorization it will be rejected right into the trash can. They will tell you that they are not currently accepting unsolicited material. The real question is, how unique are you as a singer and performer. Years of experience and mingling inside the industry will up your chances of being noticed. Go to Nashville once a month and meet people and makes friends. Revisit those friends and communicate with them as much as possible. Always remember this, if you are out of sight, you are out of mind. So keep yourself in the big dog's eye and you will be in their minds thus improving your chances of being noticed. This could go on and on. This only scratches the surface of many different ways to break into the industry. Pay your dues and hope for the best. Good luck.
