What are good gifts to give to Chinese parents if they invite you over to their house for dinner?

Anything food that can be added to the menu or dessert. Wine is also an apporpriate thing to bring. If a different gift is your desire a nice vase or bowl would be acceptable, something that is out of the ordinary. Do not be surpirsed if you do not receive a gift in return. That is something that happens in all Orental Cultures.

Something American. Think about it. If an American lived in China, and a Chinese person gave them a gift, would the American rather get a replica of the Great Wall of China, or a replica of the Statue of Liberty?

Don't even try to give them something Chinese. If you're not Chinese, at best you could only hope to appear charmingly misguided. At worst, deeply prejudiced. Just get them a unique gift that is neutral to their nationality.
