Why is marijuana illegal,but alcohol legal?

everything is done for a reason. It all comes down to money.

This country makes allot of money on the illegal stuff.

Look if it was legal it would put allot of people out of business. Just like there are cures for cancer. But we can't know that because people would lose there jobs.

Alcohol use has been around so long that the "upper crust", the respectable people who make the laws have become addicted to it and don't want to give it up. Marijuana use is more recent and the people who use it tend not to hold as much political power and they are not as influential. Public opinion hasn't been as accepting of marijuana yet. It is associated in many peoples minds with hippies and rednecks. (Grow your own type people)

There are "wine snobs" and there is a feeling that you are high class if you appreciate expensive and rare wines, brandy, whisky etc. You even have people who like certain ales, products of micro brewers etc. and they look down on others who do not have a taste for these products and consume common brands of beer.

There is no such following for marijuana or if there is, these consumers are not as vocal or snobbish about it.

The alcohol lobby has been more active than the pro-pot lobby. Is marijuana more dangerous than alcohol? Probably not. The beer and liquor companies have lobbied long and hard over a great many years to give people the right to enjoy a beer while watching the Super Bowl. The pot lobby, well there really isn't an organized one. It's a good question you asked.
