My boyfreind a I had a conversation one day about the word "woke". He would laugh at me every time i said it because he says it's not a word?

What does he mean it isn't a word. If the word "woke" came out of his mouth, it's a word. Woke is the past tense of the word "wake" which therefore makes it a word!

No, "woke" is not a word. Although it is acceptable, the proper word to use is "awakened".

It is a past tense of the word wakeup and must be used along with "up" always.
