Airway - Make sure there is nothing blocking the mouth or trachea

Breathing - Oxygen is forced into the patient either via mouth-to-mouth or an air bag

Circulation (or Compression) - The chest is compressed to circulate blood, thus moving oxygen to the vital organs.

Actually for trauma it's ABCDE's which is the primary survey. Technically ABC's (alone) refers to Cardiac Life support.

Anyway it's basically the following for Trauma:

    A-Airway and Cervical Spine Control

    B-Breathing

    C-Circulation and hemorrhage control

    D-Disability (central nervous system exam)

E-Exposure (take all clothes off to look for injury) and environmental control

Airway - Check that it's not obstructed, either by a foreign object or by their tongue.

Breathing - Check to see that the victim is breathing.

Circulation - Check to see that the victim has a pulse.
