American Idol is a take-off of the original British show, Pop Idol, which Simon helped create. The American producers approached him to help do a show over here. And I think as far as main-stream pop music is concerned, American and British tastes are pretty much the same...at any rate, Americans certainly listen to a lot of British pop.

Honestly, without Simon i think Paula and Randy would let anyone who has a teeny tiny bit of talent through just because they actually have a heart and care about feelings. I guess they just need him there because he knows what he's looking for and what america will want. And of course he adds alot of entertainment!

I believe he's put together plenty of American bands... but I believe he was contacted by some of the executives in America who saw his show that he put together in England... great idea, put the American twist on it. Besides, it's like watching a train wreck - you can't help but to watch him chew up and spit out the contestants!

because no one cares as long as he can tell you who can sing and who cannot. what difference is it if you are from america or england? you could still tell that kelly clarkson could sing if you were from england, and you could tell that william hung or the keith guy who did the madonna song could not. i don't think it makes a difference.

So he could be a real a** and stir things up a little bit. I think he's worse than they thought he would be.
