why are the harry potter books so successful?

They are loved by so many children, teens, adults (including many, many who won't admit it). But there are so many wizard/fantasy type tales out there. What made this one so successful and loved my so many millons of fans?

you feel yourself loving the harry and his friends like your own friends and family and hating his enemies like your own. everything about them is fun, even the scary parts...also, these books are for any age group, most books aren't like that.

I've read every one of them, and have seen all the movies that have been made so far. Rowling is a genius! She captures your attention from the word "go" and keeps you intrigued throughout the books!

No doubt they're brilliant books, and Rowling is a gifted author, but the answer to your question is: marketing.

I don't read them so I have no clue. My guess would be there's something about a boy wizard and his friends that people like better than other similar stories.
