What is wrong with my 2002 Saturn SL2?
I have a large amount of vibration and road noise coming from my front end when going straight or left especially over 60MPH+, problem stops completely during a right turn. I bought my new tires about 45 days ago, and problem started within 2 weeks +has consistently become worse. Had rotation/digibalance/etc done and didn't fix problem. Mechanic friend says faulty tires, tire shop says no, dealers says possible ball joint problem, firestone says cv Joint. Does anyone really know what it truely is, I can do all the repairs myself, but don't have enough experience to locate/determine the exact problem.

is the noise from the front end? if yes and it goes away when making right turns, does the noise increes when turning left? If it does, I would suggest that you have a bad right front wheel bearing or axle joint. Joints like to click, bearings like to grouwl. to verify it's not a tire, rotate them and re-test. When rotating the tire also check for front end play, play in the wheel hub is indicative of a bearing. play in the knuckle is a steering/suspention joint that will ordinarily yeild noises over bumps not turns. C.V axles will usually apear tight and are usually diagnosed by ripped boots or noise.

One test you can do is to put your spare tire on each of the four wheels and see if the vibration stops when you change that tire. If you hit a pot hole real hard, you may have a belt separation in one of the tires even if it's new. Also, you could have a bent wheel rim. Next, check the CV joint boots to see if one's split open and throwing grease all around one of the front axles. If you hear a clicking noise only when turning left or right, that's a symptom for a bad CV joint. My guess is that it's an out-of-round tire that shows correct balance, but wasn't manufactured properly. Once you prove that your spare fixes the problem, you can convince the tire dealer that there's a problem with that particular tire, whether it's the tire or a bent rim.
