Keep the dog on a leash when people come by. If your dog isn't too big, you can physically keep your dog from jumping on the people. Tell your guests to ignore the dog until it calms down. When the dog calms down, allow the guest to pet the dog or give it a treat. This way you are rewarding the good behavior, and over time, the dog will realize that jumping gets no reward, and being calm gets rewarded.

Some people say if you ignore the dog, it will stop doing it, but it didn't work on my dogs. So, I squeezed his paws everytime he jumped and he stopped doing it within a week.
It may sound a little cruel, but it works. You have to let the dog know that these kind of behavior is intolerable and that you will punish him if he does it again.

All dogs need training. use lease when someone arrives and get a crate to put him in if he does irritate people. Always remember you love your dogs but others may not like dogs or your dog

one trick is to have them not come in until the dog calms down - or you can put him on the leash and have him sit until he is use to the visitors. I usually push the dogs off and will not acknowledge it until it calms down. Try watching Barking Mad on the animal channel for ideas. There is also a link below.

Very lightly step on the dog's toes and he'll get the hint quickly enough.

step on their back feet when they stand up, not too hard but hard enough for them to step back, it's workt on every dog I have owned, and it's kind of funny because they can't seem to understand what happened
