Does anyone here use or know about Myspace.com?

My 14yr old daughter has a webpage there(i just recently found out). Because of all the negative press surrounding this website(missing children, murdered and raped girls etc.) I made her cancel her account. She was upset with me of course. I trust my daughter but I don't feel safe knowing she is using a website like this. Do you think Myspace is safe for kids who are only going on to talk to their friends? What has been your experience with this site?

Its as safe as any other social networking site, as a parent its up to you to teach your child to use common sence anywhere they have a profile.

Aim is just the same because random people can IM you in chatrooms. Danger is everywhere, you can't be constantly paranoid. I mean once your daughter moves out, she could very well just get myspace back and you can't do anything. If you know your daughter is responsible and safe then you shouldnt worry much. Just talk to her about the things that happen to people when they meet people from myspace. If she understands then I wouldn't worry much. Just make sure you know where she's going, and who she's going with. Kids do not like to be followed or badgered by their parents, but they do need rules. Taking this away from her might just make her do worse things, I know thats being dramatic but it happens. Also if you have a good relationship with your daughter, then you don't have to worry about who she's meeting and such.

I am glad that someone addressed this question because I also have a 14 year old daughter and was just talking to my coworkers about this same thing today and I'm not too crazy about her being on there.

In my opinion if you allow her on myspace again you should keep an eye on her. That goes for everything on the internet.

my friend has myspace, and i dont think it is safe, because anybody can talk to her, even people who want to jail for raping girls. so it is better if she doesnt use it. if she want to talk to her friend use aim or the phone. aim is more safe than myspace

So lame. Is your daughter lonely enough to meet strangers from a website? Then you didn't raise her right.

If she is determined to have sex, you won't be able to stop her anyway.
