what do you think about this?

i work in a place that takes care of children with autism, they live there and go to school. there is a thing that management call mandatiory over time, which means if there isnt enough people to cover the next shift then you have to stay that shift after you have already worked 8 hours.

my question: has anyone ever had to do this mandatiory overtime??? and doesnt it suck balls!!!!!!!!

Update:

i do get time and a half for the over time worked, but most of it goes to taxes anyway. this doesnt happen just once in a while, it happenes like two th three times a week. and if you tell them "i just cant work it, i have kids, etc" you can get written up, suspended, or fired. crazy isnt it. can you believe i have been there for over two years????

Update 2:

when i had my interview i asked how often the mandatiory overtime happened. she told me that it wasnt often, maybe once a month. lie lie lie

Yup this happens. Every 9 weeks my brother has to work for 16 straight hours since he works in shifts fixing air crafts. That's way too much for a person to handle when doing something difficult...very much like what you do since your jobs, I assume, consumes you mentally.

Talk about sucking balls!!! I don't even want to think about what his might smell like after working 16 hours! Why even mention the whole balls thing ;)

I've had to work overtime when projects needed completion before a deadline; I know many many people as well have had to work late at times. I know when I was interviewed for the position, I was told that on occasion overtime was required; I understood the situation when I took the job. Weren't you informed of this possibility of overtime when you took the job?

I think it sounds like it would be really hard to work that much. Does the company pay you extra money for the mandatory overtime?

♥i've never had to do mandatory overtime but isn't it awful if you are not provided the allowed time to make arrangements for the care of family members or other personal scheduling needs? i think it's terrible. i gotta give you credit for sticking with your job, you are truly GREAT! i'd never be able to do it. after 8 hours i'd be exhausted.♥
