How can I beat a double parking ticket in New York?

What are typical defenses or excuses that work? Has anyone out there done this successfully.... without using a third party?

If you have not had any other tickets in the last three years, you can ask for a "prayer for judgement". It would allow the ticket to be "on hold" for three years. If you do not get a ticket in the next three years, it will disappear. If you do, however, you will have to pay all of the fines for both tickets.
