Steps to become a Veterinarian?

I have a bachelors degree in finance curently but what I really dream of becoming is a veterinary tech or something in that field. Do I have to start all over again in school? Does my current 4 year degree give me a leg up?? I want to talk to someone that's in the field if possible so that I can lay out the steps to take to get there.

Update:

What about just a vet assistant or vet tech?

While becoming a Vet is harder than becoming a doctor it is indeed a noble profession. The reason it is harder is because you will need to read the many illnesses that affect the many different animals. You will need to study the many life cycles of disease causing micro-organisms, now you will need to memorise all of this.

Yes, you will have to go back to Veterinarian school full time for the full terms i.e. 6 or 7 years, depending of where u live.

If you've got the money and time I would suggest go for it, you will not regret. Before u do that consider seeing a movie called "All creatures great and small" .. perhaps might help u make up your mind...good luck

if you want to be a veterinarian you need to get almost perfect grades, you need to go to a 4 year college and also get almost perfect grades, you need to major in something like biology or animal science or chemistry it is very hard to get into vet schools not every state has one, it might be best for you to go to a college in a state that has a vet school, I would suggest that you get a job in a vets office or volunteer at an animal shelter as well

Being a vet is harder than being a doctor. There are less than 30 vet schools.

You will have to go to vet school just as a medical student needs to go to medical school after doing biology as an undergrad.

You don't have to start over. Like many degrees that need additional schooling veterinarians simply have to take a couple of classes before they can apply to veterinary school. Think of it as pre-law or pre-med, which arn't degrees, but a group of classes that you have to take before you are considered. As far as your other degree many schools like to take in people who have more diversified backround.
