If I answer a question correctly, and i'm the only one, why don't I get points?

I well know the feeling. I am voted "Best Answer" enough that it is a pleasant surprise when I check in, but aggravating that you took your time to answer that question -- ever noticed how these are usually questions that take a lot of thought or explanation -- and then are ignored. No "thank you, your advice helped" -- or the reverse.

Cross your fingers that enough persons become tired of cruising for answerable questions that they decide to pick up points for voting. Then maybe someone will stumble across yours and give you the points you earned.

How do you know you answered a question correctly? It's up to the person that asked the question to choose the answer.

Maybe he/she didn't like your answer. I have asked questions before and one person has answered. If it is an answer that I view nasty or stupid, I give it some more time. If no one else answers it, I will delete the question before I give 10 points to someone that I have no use for the answer.

You get your 2 points just for the answer. Some people go in and answer a question with, "I don't know" and collect 2 points. If I were Yahoo, I would deduct the 2 and deduct another 2 because they are cheating.

Because the questioner didn't choose a best answer nothing will happen. You need at least two answers to go to a vote. Users are encouraged to help resolve unresolved questions. Ask the questions about answering these one answer questions and leave links. After a while, they'll go to a vote.

It sucks that they don't rate as best answer. You do get 2 points for answering, though.
