Dogs lick the air because it help them to keep their noses wet and able to smell things in the air. Remember, dogs have powerful smell than ours. Dogs eat grass because it help them to settle their stomach or because they are thirsty and it is one way to prevent the thirst.

Okay, so I know a lot of people say that a dog only eats grass if they want to make themselves sick, however, that can depend on the dog. I have two and they both have eaten grass all their lives long and they do not get sick. They do this everytime they go outside and their mother and father apparently also do. So don't get too worried if your dog is eating grass and not throwing up.

dogs lick the air to mosten their nose and to taste the air like a snake, the olfactory "smelling" nerves and the taste buds all route to the same place in the brain in both humans and dogs, so licking the air gives them a better sniff. dogs eat grass to sooth an upset stomache or to induce vomiting, some dogs just like grass, it won't hurt them

dogs lick the air yes, because it help to moisten their noses (since it functions better when done so) this helps them find food easier and keep them cool at the same time.

they lick or chew on grass specially in the morning to grasp some dew when they're thirsty and chew on the grass when their stomaches are upset, the fibers help in digestion and often times when they really feel sick the same fibers help them clear out what they've ingested through throwing up.
