Depends on the size of the potato. For a large baker 425 for an hour. Smaller potatoes I bake at a lower temp 375 to 400 for the same amount of time. Just squeeze it to see if it's done - soft-yes, still hard-no. You can give large potatoes a jump start in the microwave for 5-10 minutes then finish in the oven if you are in a hurry. I don't like to cook them completely in the micro.

You bake a potato until a fork inserted in the middle goes in and slides out easily. The smaller the potato the less time it will take. The larger the longer time it will take.

If using a conventional oven, 450 degrees. In a microwave usually about 5 minutes.

When I prepare potatoes in the micro wave. I pierce them with a paring knife and them place them in a partially sealed ziploc bag.

Nuke it. It's just the same, no flavor loss or problems. Poke holes in it all around, put on a microwave safe plate, then nuke for 2 minutes or less, depending on the size of the tater. If it's done, it will be soft. If not, turn it over and nuke a little longer. Just the same as in the oven only wayyyyy less time!

you can also cut an X in the center of a potato, then nuke it for 5-10 minutes..a lot faster than conventional oven.
