Directv Tivo Vs. Directv DVR?

The Directv DVR system is overall better than, the Tivo. The Tivo system seems to run somewhat slow for me.

DirecTV will be converting it's streams from MPEG-2 (currently used in the HD DirecTiVo) to MPEG-4. This will free up bandwidth that will allow DirecTV to broadcast local stations in HD over the satellite. Currently, the HD DirecTiVo box uses an external antenna to pull HD locals in off the air. Once that conversion is complete (probably not until '07), I imagine that DirecTV will phase out support for the HD DirecTiVo over some period of time. They'll also likely provide some kind of deal to existing owners of the HD DirecTiVo to convert to the new, non-TiVo HD DVR. Here are your options.

1. If the problem with your current DirecTiVo is that the hard drive went bad and you're handy with computers, you can get a new hard drive already configured with the correct software from www.weaknees.com for about $200. It's very easy to install (assuming you know how to use a screwdriver).

2. You can buy a new or used HD DirecTiVo and it'll be usable for the forseeable future, but know that it will be replaced by DirecTV's new DVR probably in the next year or two.

3. You can just get the new HD DVR, knowing that's where DirecTV is headed anyway.

get the directv HD dvr system and ask for an upgrade on your sat. dish you probably have a triple sat dish wich has 3 LNB those are the white theings at the end of the dish ask for a Ka/Ku dish much better quality down side bigger. everyone is going to need that dish also i live in los angeles and most areas over here are getting upgraded already

If it were me, I'd find another Tivo box. It's not just the hard drive that makes Tivo great but the software/interface too.
