I haven't read either, don't know which. I am reading currently two books, Guns, Germs and steel, a history of Earth's cultures and civilization, answering the question why did some groups come to dominate others, like the Spanish whipeing out the Incas, has to do with food and farming, animals and crops, but then I started reading Carrie by Stephen King yesterday to get my mind of it.

Have you read Adam Smith. You seem liberal, nothing wrong with that I'm more liberal than conservative, but you just seem like someone who would reject reading Adam Smith because you would view it as a book that espouts capitalism.

I would say if you believe that, not that thats wrong, but that if you wanted to read something from those eras, why not read both Adam Smith and Karl Marx, who was a sort of response to Adam Smith. I never read Adam Smith want to, intend to, know I read some Marx in college and found it to be . . well, boorish.

Know what knocked my socks off? Emanuel Kant. Can you choose Emanuel Kant. I read a bunch of pages of explanation about the reason humans have currency. And liberal or conservative, you wouldn't object to his rational.
