My dog's nose is very dry and scabby. How can I help it heal?
He's an older dog, adopted from the shelter. They said his previous owners probably kept him in a cage in the sun or something like that, which made his nose sunburnt. I tried body lotion, aloevera, neosporin, and nothing seems to work. Plus he'll lick off anything I put on it, and band-aids don't stick to fur.
Vet was the one who told me to try the lotion, but even he was skeptic. He's never seen such a nose before. The dog is perfectly healthy and hydrated.

Vitamin E Capsules.
open a vit e capsule and rub on nose.
and see if you can keep him/her from licking at nose for a minute or more. it's going to be hard.just do the best you can

I would try some stuff called Corona Ointment it comes in a yellow tube/canister w/ a red lid. Its for horses/cattle/dogs/cats etc. I've even known people to use it on diaper rash. Anyway it says: Head and face, udder and teats: soothes chapped or sunburned muzzles, irritated udder or teats.(theres a lot more it can treat but to much to list) I've used it countless times on my dogs when they get scrapes and stuff like that. Anyway I would suggest putting it on his nose and watching him closley for as long as possible and tell him no every time he tries to lick it off, and do this as often as possible so maybe some of it can soak in. Hope this helps.

my dog has the same problem, he still licks it off but we put it on 2 times a day in the morning and night and it starts to get better if we keep it up, we use salve from a health food store or an herb place it works great!

Make sure you feed him out of a glass bowl, ceramic or a stainless steal bowl, plastic bowls cause dry scabby noses...weird huh

well, you could always take him to the vet. Or you could make sure he's properly hydrated. But I really think you should see your vet.

I would say take him to the vet.
